Many came out to our 4th Annual Pinnell Center Symposium that took place on October 28th. Speakers from across the Medical Center and beyond presented their current work to faculty members, staff, postdocs, and medical students.
This year's symposium had three guest presenters. Dr. Dennis Roop from the University of Colorado, Denver and the Director of the Gates Stem Cell Center presented his current work on epidermolysis bullosa. Dr. Todd Ridky from the University of Pennsylvania presented on how estrogen and progesterone affect skin pigmentation and likelihood of melanoma. Dr. Niroshana Anandasabapathy from Harvard Medical School is looking at heat maps to recognize the probability of skin cancer for certain genomes. Their presentations were complemented with presentations from Duke researchers in Dermatology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, Medicine, Neurosurgery, and Immunology.
The late Dr. Sheldon Pinnell would have been proud of the growth that Dermatology has made over the years.
